They were the first Olympics in which 241 only male athletes from 14 countries participated (Germany, Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Chile, Denmark, United States, France, Greece , Hungary, Italy, United Kingdom, Sweden and Switzerland).

Once the first Olympiad of the Modern Era was over, King Jorge said that the Olympic Games should always be celebrated in Athens although today we see that they are celebrated in different places around the world.
