At present the Russians use rubles as currency. We can find coins of 1, 2, 5 and 10 rubles and 1, 5, 10 and 50 kopeks (denominated to the fractions of the ruble).

Collectors usually like to collect commemorative silver coins of 1, 2 and 3 rubles.

Historically the first Russian rubles was put into circulation during the thirteenth century, it was a fragment of about 200 grams of silver. These bars were cut and the larger the size of the bar the higher the value, so there were larger bars than others (the origin of the word "ruble" is given thanks to this custom since the verb "rubit" in Russian means to cut.)
